admission policy

The prospective student shall complete the following BSN Program admission steps in order.

Step 1. General Education Core and Degree Base Course Requirements

The prospective student shall apply to UTB and have the pre-requisite General Education Core courses for admission evaluated for approval.

Completion of 51 semester credit hours of Core and Degree Base Courses is required prior to applying to the BSN Program:

Transfer Students

Transfer students must submit other school transcripts to the UTB Registrar’s Office for evaluation when they apply for admission and after all General Education Core courses are complete. According to the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (http://statecore.its.txstate.edu), every public institution in Texas has a Core, which is designed to make transfers between and among Texas institutions of higher education as smooth and seamless as possible. It is very likely that while similar, no two institutions will have exactly the same Core Curriculum. Never fear! If you complete the Core Curriculum at one institution, it substitutes for the Core Curriculum at any other public college in Texas, even if there are differences.
Note that General Education Core courses from other Texas colleges are accepted as “Core Complete” when ALL of that institution’s core courses are completed. Individual courses, not “Core Complete”, are evaluated based on UTB General Education Core requirements.
It is the prospective student’s responsibility to monitor when transcripts are evaluated and accepted online.

Step 2. BSN Admission Requirements

After admission to UTB and all pre-requisite General Education Core and Degree Base courses are accepted, the prospective student may apply to the BSN Program by submitting the following documentation together:

          ____   BSN Program application.
                    (BSN Program Application)
____   Immunization form (including Varicella and TB test).
                    (Immunizations)
____   Copy of current RN License.
____   Copy of current CPR card.

Students may be permitted to take nursing courses prior to the completion of the general education core and degree base courses.
