Graduate Studies

It is my pleasure to welcome you to The University of Texas at Brownsville and Texas Southmost College, a member of the University of Texas System. UTB/TSC continuously strives to foster an environment of higher learning that will not only enrich the lives of its students, but also the communities of which they are a part. The University, which was founded in 1992, currently offers 21 graduate degrees, including Master's of Arts, Science, Education, Business, and Nursing. Because we are a young university, new graduate programs are being created every year, and we hope to offer our first doctorate soon. All of our graduate programs are designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary to lead productive and proactive lives as leaders in their field.

Located in deep, South Texas a few miles from South Padre Island, Brownsville, Texas and the University are also located on the border with Mexico.  This unique location contributes to the internationalization of the curriculum for many of our graduate degrees and provides our graduate students with the opportunity to experience a living laboratory for a learning environment and also provides unique opportunities for research and scholarship.  Our graduate tuition and fees are low, even by Texas standards, and our graduate class sizes are small, creating an intimate setting that promotes a genuine rapport among faculty, students, and peers, thereby promoting academic excellence. At the same time, we provide ample opportunities for students to interact and forge relationships outside of the classroom setting to compliment their academic interests.

On our website you will find information outlining all of our graduate programs, as well as links to the Colleges and Schools offering those programs.  All the forms you need to apply to graduate school, plus information regarding financial assistance, scholarships and graduate assistantships are also posted here.  A Graduate Student Handbook, which will guide you through your graduate studies, can be downloaded. If we have omitted information that you need, please let us know.  We would like to hear from you.

I wish you the best in your pursuit of your graduate education, and hope that our graduate programs will provide you with a learning experience which will enhance your career and help you to achieve your life goals.

Dr. Charles Lackey
Dean of Graduate Studies
