What is Foundations of Excellence®?

The FoE process is centered around a campus-based task force, a group with broad representation from across the campus. The work of the task force begins with a campus audit of the first year for new students and continues with a year-long process of evaluation using performance indicators. It culminates in the development of a strategic action plan for campus improvement.

The Foundations of Excellence® process is the signature work of the Policy Center on the First Year of College, which is based at he John ardner Institute for Excellence in Undergraduate Education. Among the organizations that have supported the work of the center are the Pew Charitable Trusts, the Atlantic Philanthropies, Lumina Foundation for Education, USA Funds and the Winthrop Rockefeller Foundation.

UTB/TSC was selected to participate in the Foundations of Excellence® 2009-2010 National Select Cohort of Four-Year Institutions sponsored by the Policy Center on the First Year of College. This process has involved the campus in a year-long self study of students’ first year.
