Area of Specialty and Responsibility:

Susan Hurley-Glowa is an ethnomusicologist who teaches world music, Western art music, and studio horn. She holds a Ph.D. and MA in musicology (concentration in ethnomusicology) from Brown University. Susan began her study of music as a hornist, completing degrees in Performance at the Crane School of Music, SUNY Potsdam (BM), the University of Louisville (MM), and the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik in Freiburg, Germany (Advanced Performance Certificate). Her horn teachers include Roy Schaberg and the renowned British soloist Ifor James. Susan has played horn in many professional orchestras in America and Germany over the years. A highly respected ethnomusicologist, she has published numerous articles and a documentary film on her research specialty, music of the Cape Verde Islands (W. Africa). She will be heading the newly established Center of Excellence at UTB with a concentration on Hispanic music.
