Brownsville samba school

The Brownsville Samba School is directed by Dr. Tom Nevill, UTB Department of Music Chair.  The group is open to all ages and is a wonderful avenue for friends and families to create music together.  The culmination of the rehearsals is a performance at the UTB Percussion Ensemble Concert at the end of the semester.

Escolas de Samba, or "Samba Schools," are part of the Brazilian Carnival street parade tradition.  Every year these ensembles, which number in the thousands, are formed from various members of different communities and take to the street during the Carnival celebration.  One ensemble alone can have as many as 600 percussionists and up to 4,000 dancers!

Tuition for the semester is minimal:
          $20 per individual -or-
          $30 for the entire family

The Brownsville Samba School will meet every other Tuesday from 6:00 - 7:00 pm in the UTB Percussion Building.  The rehearsal schedule is as follows:
