Funding

The Department of Modern Languages offers various scholarships for both undergraduate and graduate students. Listed below are the scholarships that are offered on a yearly basis as well as the eligibility requirements for each.

UNDERGRADUATE SCHOLARSHIPS

Peggy Huie Scholarship for Modern Languages Undergraduate Spanish Majors and Translation Minors
Outstanding undergraduate students majoring in Spanish are invited to apply for the Peggy Huie Scholarship. Completed applications (which can be obtained from Cardenas Hall South, 288 or online) should be submitted to Professor Tom Welther, MRCSH 288, by May 1st. Eligibility Requirements:

Undergraduate Spanish major
3.0 minimum GPA
Enrolled at least half time with three credits at the 3000-4000 level
Junior or senior status (60-150 credit hours earned)
Texas resident
Not in default

Margarita de Luna Hinojosa Veteran’s Memorial Endowment Scholarship For Spanish Undergraduate Majors
Thanks to a generous endowment from the Margarita de Luna Hinojosa Veteran’s Memorial Fund, the Department is pleased to announce a new scholarship available to undergraduate Spanish Majors. Preference will be given to veterans; other requirements include at least a 2.7 GPA, while there are no stipulations for residency or nationality.

Applications are found in Cardenas Hall South 288 or online. Complete applications and return to Cardenas Hall South 251 before May 1. For more information, contact Professor Suzanne Lalonde.

Castellano Scholarship for Modern Languages Undergraduate Spanish Majors
Outstanding undergraduate students majoring in Spanish are invited to apply for the Castellano Scholarship for the academic year ONLY: no summer classes. Completed applications (which can be obtained from Cardenas Hall South 288 or online) should be submitted to Dr. Suzanne LaLonde, Cardenas Hall South 251 by May 1. Eligibility Requirements:

Undergraduate Spanish major
3.0 Minimum GPA

GRADUATE SCHOLARSHIPS AND ASSISTANTSHIPS

College of Liberal Arts Talent Scholarship For Graduate Students in Spanish
Outstanding graduate students are invited to apply for the College of Liberal Arts Talent Scholarship. Completed applications (which can be obtained online or from Cardenas Hall South, 288) should be submitted to Dr. Suzanne LaLonde, Cardenas Hall South 251 by May 1. Eligibility Requirements:

Graduate student in the Spanish and translation programs
3.0 minimum GPA
No nationality requirements
Not in default
