Welcome to the Department of Modern Languages at the University of Texas and Texas Southmost College in Brownsville, a dynamic community of distinguished faculty with widely varying backgrounds. The Department of Modern Languages provides programs of study in various languages designed to develop effective oral and written communications skills and the cultural knowledge needed to participate in the global society. The department continues to expand its General Education course offerings, which currently include Spanish, French, German, Italian, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese and American Sign Language.
