Dr. Cook worked for 20 years in business and government jobs in training and development, management consulting, motivational speaking, corporate sales and non-profit development. He returned to academe in August of 2004 when the Communication program began at UTB. He teaches 12 hours/semester of undergraduate curriculum in applied communication in such areas as leadership, training, gender and communication and conflict management. He conducts scholarly research, promotes and contributes to service to the university and community. Dr. Cook is faculty Advisor to the Communication Council, past faculty sponsor for e-journalism group: Students for Public Awareness, served four years as faculty coach for Skills USA National Champion TV News Anchor competition, past sponsor for League of Student Voters, past cosponsor for STING RADIO club. He was twice nominated by The University for CASE US Professor of the Year. Dr. Cook also served 4 years as principle investigator for Ford Foundation grant to promote valuing diversity, and is co-host of Public Radio Program “Good Books.” Dr. Cook has directed two theatrical productions at UTB.

Area of Specialty and Responsibility:

Dr. Cook specializes in education which empowers. His leadership, training and organizational communication courses help prepare students for professional careers. His conflict resolution, gender and communication and difficult dialogues courses teach students the skills they need to effectively communicate in an increasingly diverse world, and his advanced public speaking class improves presentation skills. Dr. Cook occasionally directs theatrical productions. He also serves as sponsor of a student service club, the communication council.
