The Philosophy

UTB and TSC is committed to students, participatory governance, liberal education, the expansion of the application of knowledge, human dignity, the convening of cultures and respect for the environment.

SLO1:

The student will connect course content to service learning (SL).

Connects and extends knowledge (facts, theories, vocabulary, etc.), from one’s own academic study/field/discipline to SL.
Analyzes knowledge (facts, theories, vocabulary, etc.), from one’s own academic study /field/ discipline, making relevant connections to SL.
Begins to connect knowledge (facts, theories, vocabulary, etc.), from one’s own academic study/ field/ discipline to SL.
Begins to identify knowledge (facts, theories, vocabulary, etc.), from one’s own academic study/field/discipline that is relevant to SL.

(Measured by a reflection paper, journal entry, presentation, etc.)

SLO2:

The student will provide evidence of reflection on service learning (SL) activities and will describe what s/he has learned about him/herself as this learning relates to citizenship.

Provides evidence of SL experience and describes what s/he has learned about her or himself as it relates to a reinforced and clarified sense of citizenship.
Provides evidence of SL experience and describes what s/he has learned about her or himself as it relates to a growing sense of citizenship.
Evidence suggests involvement in SL activities generated from expectations or course requirements rather than from a sense of citizenship.
Provides little evidence of her/his SL experience and does not connect experiences to citizenship.

(Measured by a sign-in sheet, professor observations, or agency evaluation of the student, as well as a reflection paper, journal entry, presentation, etc.)
