Kathleen Becan-McBride, Ph.D., Professor, Director of Community and Educational Outreach, and Coordinator of the Texas-Mexico Services Project, UTHSC-H, Consultant to the MBRS RISE Advisory Board
Kathleen Becan-McBride, Ed.D., MT(ASCP)CM is director of Community and Educational Outreach at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston and tenured medical school professor in the Department of Family and Community Medicine at UTHSC-H. She has published 23 books and more than 50 articles, and has been on numerous national and international health care advisory boards and several editorial boards for health care journals. Dr. Becan-McBride has had research projects related to the medical laboratory sciences and communities (i.e, UV/TB Prevention Research Project in Homeless Shelters in Houston). She serves on educational advisory boards for medical laboratory science educational programs and statewide community outreach programs. She has had invitational medical laboratory science presentations nationally and internationally, including Singapore, China, Russia, France, South America and, most recently, New Zealand. Also, she was the invited “Guest of Honor” and speaker at the Philippine Association of Medical Technologists – U.S.A. 20th Anniversary Convention. Along with Dr. Garza, she received the American Medical Writers’ Association Book award for the "Phlebotomy Handbook" in October, 2006. For the American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Registry, she is the elected chair of the Board of Governors. Dr. Becan-McBride has been educating students in the health professions since 1973.
