I am pleased to announce two senior administrative appointments that are effective today. As we move forward, these appointments will enable us to serve our students and faculty more effectively and support our important mission in the region.
Dr. Ruth Ann Ragland will be our new Associate Provost, and Meloney Linder will become our Interim Vice President for Institutional Advancement.
Dr. Ragland will join the Provostís Office at a critical time in the evolution of our institution. In her new role, she will work closely with the Provost on several important initiatives including improving retention and graduation rates, nurturing our three new colleges (University College, Nursing, and Biomedical Sciences and Health Professions), managing our challenging budget, and guiding our divisions in difficult circumstances.
As Dr. Ragland transitions to a new position, I want to acknowledge some of her major accomplishments during the past five years she served as VP for Institutional Advancement. During these years, IA has evolved and grown in many significant ways including: creating 41 new endowments, raising more than $2 million for the Arts Center, attracting more than $250,000 for the Scorpion Fund, creating an Alumni Office and an Office of Corporate and Foundation Relations, overseeing the launch of the new utb.edu website, and establishing and implementing a marketing and communications strategic plan and brand standards. Our Division of Institutional Advancement is now poised to move to a new level of achievement thanks to her dedicated and thoughtful hard work.
Dr. Ragland also brings to her new role previous experience as Vice President for Academic Affairs at this university and almost 30 years in higher education, including positions at the University of New Mexico, Texas Womanís University and Southern Methodist University.
Meloney Linder joined our campus in 2008 after a successful career in the private sector. During the past three years, she has provided strong leadership as Associate Vice President of Marketing and Communication in the Institutional Advancement Division. Under her direction, marketing and communications has been reorganized, and she and her team have successfully revamped our website, instituted brand standards and produced an effective marketing and communications strategic plan for the university. I look forward to the energy and enthusiasm she will bring to the entire division.
To help ensure the strategic success of Institutional Advancement, I have invited Jim Noffke, Executive Director of UT Systemís Center for Development Leadership, to review our Advancement operations in order to determine what we are doing well and what we can improve. He will also support Meloney Linder in her interim role. We will also begin the search process for the VP for Institutional Advancement in the near future.
Please welcome and support Ruth Ann and Meloney as they continue to serve our institution in their new roles.
