Candidates must hold a valid teaching certificate. The purpose of the program is to supply schools with teachers who can teach and assess children effectively online.

COursE dEsCriPtiOns

EDLI 6330 Diverse Learner Reading and Digital Literacies Emergent bilinguals and learners with special needs and gifts are highlighted. Candidates understand: dyslexia, accessibility mandates, local support personnel, online privacy, and language, background, and learning style needs. They develop differentiated online lesson plans and interventions for diverse K-12 learners and ensure equitable print and digital literacy instruction and assessment. Lec. 3, Cr. 3

EDLI 6360 Assessment Practices in Reading and Digital Literacies Reflective literacy assessment and instruction issues are highlighted. Candidates assess and teach emergent bilinguals and learners with special needs using formal and informal assessments of: emergent literacy, vocabulary, writing, reading, digital literacy, and viewing/representing. Candidates develop leadership skills, create an online course, and interact regularly with parents and struggling learners. Lec. 3, Cr. 3

EDTC 6340 Applications of Advanced Technologies in the PK-12 Classroom This course emphasizes the skills required of the master Teacher of Technology certification including applications of: multimedia, Web-based materials, desktop publishing, streaming media, and media currently used in scientifically-based research of instructional technology application in PK-12 classrooms. Lec. 3, Cr. 3

EDTC 6341 Student Centered Learning Using Technology This course provides the Master Technology Teacher (MTT) with the skills and conceptual knowledge for instructional design and development of student-centered learning activities in the PK-12 classroom. The course also addresses critical issues in this instructional design and development process, including effective modifications of instruction that uses advanced technologies for special needs students and mentoring other faculty members. *The candidate must pass all four courses with a B- 85% or higher to receive the Texas Virtual School Network (TXVSN) Document of Completion; s/he must also demonstrate proof of a valid, current Texas Teaching Certificate. Although the UTB Internal Document of Completion contains the same four courses, UTB grants this Online K-12 Instruction Graduate Certificate, as well as a Document of Completion for TxVSN-approved professional development instructor credentialing verification. These are two separate documents. UTB Online K-12 Instruction is an approved professional development provider for the Texas Virtual School Network (TxVSN) to provide required training for teachers teaching electronic course/s offered through the network (TxVSN).

Approved Online Professional Development Course for TxVSN Instructors

TEA has announced key partnerships to implement critical functions of the Texas Virtual School Network (TxVSN), including professional development for teaching online. Prior to teaching courses offered via the TxVSN, teachers are required to take TxVSN-approved professional development that specifically focuses on learning to teach effectively in the online environment. Information about course offerings, professional development, and participation in the TxVSN is available online at http://www.txvsn.org.
