There are several convenient ways to apply for admission to UTB/TSC. You can apply online though UTB/TSC’s online admission application or go to ApplyTexas, or in person at the Office of Admissions in Tandy Hall 115 (Fort Brown Campus).
All new entering students, defined as first-time freshman, transfer and returning students who have been enrolled at a an institution of higher education prior to January 1, 2012 and are enrolling after a long semester (fall, spring) break, must provide The University of Texas at Brownsville’s Student Health Services with one of the following in order to clear admission requirements:
- Certification from a health care practitioner evidencing that the student has received vaccination or booster 5 years prior to enrolling in the University; or
- Certification from a health care practitioner evidencing that the student has been vaccinated at least ten (10) days prior to the first day of class; or
- An affidavit indicating that the vaccination has been declined for reasons of conscience or a certificate from a health care practitioner stating that the vaccination would be injurious to the health and well-being of the student. The approved form for an exemption can be found here. If the student is over 18, they can complete the form themselves, listing themselves as the parent or legal guardian.
If you are unable to receive the Meningitis Vaccination from a local health care practitioner, UTB Student Health Services provides the vaccination for the following:
- Students under 19: $5.00 (US dollars)
- Student 19 and over: $110.00 (US dollars)
Students who do not meet the Meningitis Vaccination requirement prior to the Admission deadlines will not be cleared for admittance and should prepare for enrollment into the following semester.
Please note that the vaccination requirements do not apply to those students who are enrolled in only on-line classes or other distance education courses or are 30 years of age or older prior to first day of class.

Transcripts
Submit transcripts from previously attended colleges, universities or high schools translated into English to the Admissions Office. For more information visit the Admissions Office in Tandy Hall 115, or call (956) 882-8295.
TOEFL Test Scores Students are required to take the TOEFL exam. Please visit www.toefl.org for more information, test dates, sites and registration. Minimum TOEFL Scores are:
- Internet-based test, 61 (available at UTB/TSC)
- Paper-based test, 500
- Computer-based test, 173
Texas Success Initiative
First-time freshman that are not exempt from the state-required assessment must take one of the state-approved assessment tests, such as COMPASS, THEA, ACCUPLACER or the ASSET Writing Skills Test. Copy of Valid Passport
Obtain a passport valid for at least 5 years and send a photocopy to the Admissions Office with your documentation package.
Affidavit of Financial Support
Complete and notarize the “Affidavit of Financial Support” form. For more information, e-mail admissions@utb.edu, call (956) 882-8295, or visit Tandy 115 on campus.
Provide Proof of Financial Resources
Submit an original bank statement or an original signed letter on the bank’s letterhead indicating the minimum financial funds available (statement should not be older than 90 days as of the first class day)
