Imani Winds / Boston Brass
Sketches of Spain and Porgy and Bess
April 13, 2012
Two world-class chamber ensembles combine for one very special project.
North America's premier wind quintet, the Grammy nominated Imani Winds, has established itself as one of the most successful and distinctive chamber music ensembles in the United States. They are combining forces with Boston Brass, major players in their own right, for a project that breathes new life into Miles Davis’ pivotal recordings, Sketches of Spain and Porgy and Bess. Recorded between 1958 and 1960, Davis collaborated with arranger Gil Evans to break out of the bebop tradition and lay the foundation for modal jazz and world music influences.
This performance concludes a two-day residency for Imani and Boston Brass, which is made possible in part by funding from the National Endowment for the Arts.
