Green Cleaning Materials
Green Seal is an independent non-profit group which certifies products are greener, healthier, and help reduce the impact on the environment. The University’s custodial vendor, GCA Services Group, uses the following products are Green Seal Certified:
- toilet tissue
- paper towels
- general purpose cleaners
- hand soaps.
GCA Services group also uses Greenguard-certified products. The Greenguard Environmental Institute is an accredited third-party organization, which tests indoor air quality.
Campus cleaning products also include items accredited by the Carpet and Rug Institute, which is the first and only American National Standard Institute-accredited green carpet program in the United States.
GCA Services Group cleaning crews use microfiber cloths and mops. With water alone, microfiber cloths can remove over 99% of Staph, E. coli, and Salmonella on stainless steel. A traditional cotton cloth only removes 30% of the bacteria and viruses.* In addition, the University follows EPA procurement guidelines for janitorial paper and trashcan liners.
