Stay informed and keep an eye on Hurricane Ike
September 10, 2008 5:15 p.m.
Hurricane Ike is now a Category 2 hurricane and we continue to monitor the movement of this dangerous storm.
Weather forecasters have adjusted the track of the hurricane to just east of Matagorda Bay. This is good news for Brownsville.
Current reports indicate the increasing size of Ike will likely cause breezy to locally windy conditions late Friday and Saturday. Bands of showers and a few thunderstorms could also produce heavy rainfall and flooding.
The University will continue to monitor the track and keep you informed. A decision on whether to cancel classes will be made sometime on Thursday.
The UTB/TSC Hurricane Team and the UTB/TSC Hurricane Plan/Alert Page will keep you updated on any new announcements and updates from firstname.lastname@example.org
For now the university’s Emergency Response Team is preparing should the storm approach our area.
The ERT is made up of key individuals on campus that are tasked with an important duty...securing the safety of the campus in the event of an emergency.
Sandbags have been delivered to buildings and Physical Plant employees are ready to begin boarding up buildings should the need arise.
ERT Members have been reviewing the university’s plan for Hurricane Preparedness and we encourage you to view the plan and familiarize yourself with the procedures in place.
