BSN Program Description
Welcome to the BSN Program at the UTB/TSC! This BSN Student Handbook contains important information and links that will help you as you progress through the program.
The University of Texas at Brownsville and Texas Southmost College (UTB/TSC) offers an online Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree completion program. The program is for Registered Nurses (RN), who have completed a Diploma or Associate Degree in Nursing, to complete a BSN education. Courses are offered online and designed to build on previous nursing education and experiences of the RN student. The purpose of this program is to provide a foundation in Holistic Nursing as an art and science with an emphasis on self-care and holistic care of clients, families, and communities. The program will prepare graduates for entry into graduate nursing education and to sit for the American Holistic Nurses’ Certification Examination for baccalaureate prepared nurses.
The Holistic Nursing curriculum is based on the belief that the RN student will grow from a technically trained nurse into a professionally educated nurse to better assist clients of culturally diverse communities. The program will also develop students’ potential to prevent illness, promote self-care, nurture others towards the wholeness inherent within them and or cope with death and dying. In keeping with the UTB/TSC mission and philosophy, progressive and accessible high quality holistic nursing education is provided with a distance education curriculum. Core values of the BSN program include Caring, Holism, Ethics, Nurse Self Care, Relationship Centeredness and Cultural Diversity. This community based Holistic approach is the core for teaching professional nursing, culture/cultural diversity, environment, professional nursing education, client and health.
