The Advising and registration services

Although all students declare majors when applying to UTB, only students who have completed College Algebra (or its equivalent) and are eligible for Precalculus or Calculus are admitted to the Engineering Physics program.  While you are an admitted Engineering Physics major, you will get all your advising needs met within the department and within the college.

For all advising and registration needs, the Student Affairs Assistant is your first point of contact. She will open your file and direct you to the person who may best assist you with selecting course or help solve problems.

Freshmen:

The standard first semester is the same for all Engineering Department programs.

Calculus I
Introduction to Engineering
General Chemistry I and Laboratory
Composition I
U.S. History to 1877

Precalculus or Calculus II may be substituted for Calculus I.

Eligibility for Calculus I or other mathematics courses:
A student who scores higher than 39 on the COMPASS exam is eligible for College Algebra.   Many students have taken math courses in high school that are more advanced than Algebra.  The Mathematics Department provides a direct path into Precalculus or Calculus I for qualified students.  Go to the Math office SETB 2.454 (882-6636) and ask about the math test.   Practice problems here.

Qualifying for direct entry to Precalculus or Calculus requires successful completion of a test and an interview with the Mathematics Department.

All prospective Engineering students are strongly encouraged to take the test.
