Superintendent Maria Rodriguez Casas, who was born in the U.S. but raised in Mexico, spent many of her summers as a migrant worker alongside her parents and eight brothers and sisters. Casas said she uses her experience to encourage students in her district to strive for a better education and to be proud of their background and heritage.
