The University of Texas at Brownsville is part of The University of Texas System. The University serves about 17,000 students at its campus located in Brownsville, Texas. UTB is situated about 25 miles from South Padre Island and just across the border from Matamoros, Mexico. The College of Education (http://coe.utb.edu) serves over 5,500 graduate and undergraduate students each semester. The College of Education offers 31 undergraduate programs of which 22 are leading to teacher certification from elementary to PK-12. In addition, we have non-teacher programs which lead to the B.S. in health and human performance as kinesiology and exercise science, as well as a certificate and associate program in child care and development. At the graduate level, we offer 17 master's specializations in bilingual education, counseling and guidance, curriculum and instruction, early childhood education, educational leadership, educational technology, English as a second language, health and human performance, reading and special education. Doctoral Program in curriculum offers the following specializations: bilingual studies, literacy, early childhood education, educational leadership, educational technology, and higher education teaching. With the continued growth of the University and the development of new programs within the College of Education, applications are invited for the following positions.

Positions available for 2013 fall semester

Assistant Professor in Learning & Cognition      
Position Number:
FY 13-27
Reports to: Chairperson of the Educational Psychology and Leadership Studies
Scope: Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Educational Psychology, develop and maintain an active research and publication agenda; advise students, supervise field-based experiences, collaborate in further development of new undergraduate and graduate programs. This is a full-time tenure track position. The position will commence Fall 2013.
Education:
Earned doctorate in Educational Psychology, learning cognition or related field is required. 
Experience: Three years of EC-12 public school teaching experience is required. Preference will be given to candidates with experience with language minority populations (English/Spanish), preparation in the learning and development of children, an interest in the professional development of teachers, and a record of scholarship, grant initiatives, and/or school/university collaborations.

Assistant Professor in Exercise Science      
Position Number:
FY 13-28
Reports to: Chairperson of Health & Human Performance Department
Scope: This is a full-time tenure-track position that is anticipated to begin the Fall of 2013. Faculty will teach a variety of exercise science undergraduate and graduate courses, advise and mentor students. The faculty will also engage in scholarly work through research, national and international presentations, publications, and seek external funding. Additional responsibilities include providing service to the profession, department, college, university and community.
Education: The candidate must have an earned doctorate in exercise science or in a closely related field is required. An ABD candidate will be considered but must be in final stages of the dissertation process.
Experience: Evidence of the ability to conduct scholarly work and use technology within the exercise science field is required. Higher education teaching experience in exercise physiology and other exercise science courses is required.

Assistant Professor in Mixed Research Methods

Reports to: Chairperson of Teaching, Learning, and Innovation Department
Scope: Teach research courses, develop and maintain an active research and publication record; advise students; collaborate in further development of graduate and undergraduate courses and programs and pursue an externally funded research agenda. This is a full-time tenure track position to begin employment Fall 2013. 
Education: Earned Doctorate in Education Research or a closely related field is required. 
Experience: Experience in qualitative and mixed methods in research designs is required. Preference will be given to candidates with experience work with linguistically and ethnically diverse populations, and with a record of scholarship, grant initiatives, and collaborative research in education.

Associate/Full Professor in Bilingual/Biliteracy/Intercultural Education
Position Number:
FY 13-31 
Reports to: Chairperson of Language, Literacy & Intercultural Studies Department
Education: Earned doctorate in bilingual education, biliteracy, intercultural/global education or closely related field.
Experience: Candidates should have a substantial publication record and an active research agenda. Faculty will conduct research and teach graduate and undergraduate courses in bilingual education, biliteracy, (Spanish/English) and intercultural education; advise students and direct dissertations; collaborate in further development of innovative programs; participate in school/university collaborations; pursue an external funding agenda; and incorporate technology into coursework. Preference will be given to candidates with experience teaching language minority students. NCATE experience is a plus.

Assistant Professor in Science Education, EC-6th Grade
Position Number: FY 13-38
Reports to: Chairperson of Teaching, Learning, and Innovation Department
Scope: Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in science education methods, develop and maintain and active research/publication agenda, advise students; supervise field based experiences; collaborate in further development of undegraduate (B.A.I.S., EC-6th Grade Generalist), UTeach, and graduate programs (M.Ed. Curriculum & Instruction); participate in school/university/community collaborations, assist with and pursue and aggressive external funding agenda, and incorporate technology into coursework. This is a full-time tenure track position to begin employment Fall 2013. Position is contingent upond funding. 
Education: Earned doctorate in Curriculum & Instruction or Science Education is required.
Experience: A minimum of three years of K-6 teaching in science classroom and its responsabilities is required. Must hold teaching certfication within the EC-6th grade level. Preference will be given to candidates with campus; district wide curriculum and professional development experience with language minority, ESL and migrant populations (English/Spanish) experience in a teacher preparation program, and demonstrate record or potential for scholarship and grant initiatives. Be supportive of school/university collaborations.

Assistant/Associate Professor in Health & Human Performance Specialization in Pedagogy 
Position Number: FY 13-39
Reports to: Chairperson of Health & Human Performance Department
Scope: Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in kinesiology; participate in research/scholarly activities in the field; articipate in curriculum planning, implementation and evaluation activities; and assist with academic advisement. This is a full-time tenure track position to begin employment Fall 2013.  
Education: Higher education teaching experience preferred with experience in teaching physical education at the elementary level required with teacher certification preferred. Evidence of the ability to conduct scholarly work and expereince with grant work preferred. Skills in using technology in the fieled required.
Salary: Commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Lecturer in Educational Research Methods
Position Number: FY 13-40
Reports to: Chairperson of Teaching, Learning, and Innovation Department
Scope: Teach three of four per smester graduate quantitative research education online/face-to-face courses; collaborate in meeting master level graduate program accreditation requirements, develop research based curriculum; participate in college/university collaborattions; oversee and monitor extrenally funded grant projects; and assure compliance with federal and state funding regulations. Occasional travel may be required. This is a full-time tenure track position to begin employment Fall 2013. Position is contingent upond funding. 
Education: Earned doctorate in Educational Innovation and/or Research or closely related area is required.
Experience: Teaching online courses and skillss. Skills and expertise is grant management and state and federal funding regulations is required. The candidate must demonstrate and have a positive history to support of school/university collaborations. Fluency in the English/Spanish languages. 
Salary: Commensurate with experience and qualifications.
