BECOMING A OCELOT
AUGUST
- Meet with your high school counselor to review high school graduation plans and college admissions requirements.
- Obtain and explore career information.
- Request college information.
- Indentify college admissions and testing requirements, fees, important dates and deadlines.
SEPTEMBER
- Attend UTB college planning events at your high school and get to know university staff.
- Apply online for admission at www.applytexas.org.
- If you did not take the SAT or ACT test during your junior year or if plan to retake these exams, register well in advance for an October or Noverber date.
- Request that your high school send your official transcripts to the Office of Admissions and Recuitment after graduation.
- Begin researching for outside scholarships in early fall (some applications are available in September).
- Identify and meet deadlines for each scholarship application and fill out the applications completely.
OCTOBER
- Schedule to take the COMPASS or other state-approved assessment, such as THEA, as required to comply with the Texas Success Initiative program.
- Begin applying for private and public scholarships.
- Visit the UTB campus, meet staff and faculty, and attend college planning events.
NOVEMBER
- Check admission status and review important dates and deadlines.
- Research different forms of financial aid.
- Request letters of reference and recommendation for scholarship applications from teachers, high school counselors, employers and others.
DECEMBER
- Visit the UTB campus, meet staff and faculty, and attend college planning events.
- Apply for research-based university scholarships.
JANUARY
- Attend Financial Aid Nights.
- Continue applying for scholarships.
- Visit the UTB Office of Student Financial Assistance, Tandy Hall 205 for a one-to-one consultation with a Financial Aid Officer.
- Apply for financial aid online at www.FAFSA.gov (UTB Code: 030646) as soon as possible after January 1 (priority deadline is March 1).
FEBRUARY
- Complete and submit the application for UTB general university or other scholarships that have a March deadline.
- Submit an application for the University Scorpion Scholarship if you are in the top 10 percent of your graduating class.
- Review your Student Aid Report, or "SAR. Make changes if necessary and submit requested documentation, such as copies of federal income tax returns and W-2’s, to the Office of Financial Aid. Keep copies of all documents submitted.
MARCH
- Follow up with the Office of Admissions and Recruitment and the Office of Financial Aid to make sure you’ve fulfilled all application requirements.
- Review campus housing options and submit a housing application if you choose.
- Register online for Orientation (freshman orientation).
- Visit the UTB campus, meet with Admissions staff.
APRIL
- Review important dates and deadlines for registration, financial aid, payments, and housing.
- Note that registration for summer and fall classes begins.
MAY
- Review your financial aid award and sign up for a student loan session if required.
JUNE TO AUGUST
- Attend Orientation.
- Check to make sure your high school has sent your official, completed transcripts to the Office of Admissions and Recruitment.
- Register for fall classes, if you have not done so already.
- Meet with an academic advisor, if you haven’t already.
- Pay for classes by the payment deadline.
- Buy books and a parking permit.
