Scope: The Director of Academic Assessment will play a leadership role in developing a campus-wide culture of assessment that uses evidence-based decision making for the continuous improvement of student learning. Working collaboratively with the faculty, staff, deans, associate deans, department chairs, and the Office of the Provost and Academic Affairs, the Director will support effective strategies to assess academic affairs performance targets, to assess student learning in face-to-face, blended and online programs and courses, to assess academic co-curricular programs and to improve academic program quality. The Director will provide expertise and guidance to the campus community in planning, implementing and evaluating meaningful assessment across the graduate, undergraduate, academic co-curricular and academic extra-curricular programs. The Director will work closely with school/college administration and staff, with faculty and with other program directors in supporting their efforts to refine student learning outcomes at the college/school, program and course level, select appropriate measures for student learning outcomes, design efficient and meaningful assessment processes, and “close the loop” by using the results of assessment to improve curricula and advance effective pedagogy in face-to-face, blended and online courses. The Director will be responsible for coordinating the annual collection of assessment data and play a key role in communicating the institution’s assessment efforts to various constituencies, including UT System, THECB and the accrediting agencies. Other duties may be assigned by the Associate VPAA: Student Success. The position will commence June 1, 2014. Education: Doctoral degree from an accredited institution.
Experience: This position requires at least two years of experience in projects related to program assessment, student learning outcomes assessment, and/or construction/revision of curriculum. Previous administrative experience is highly desirable. Candidates must have an understanding of program development and implementation and must possess excellent interpersonal skills, proven leadership skills, and excellent communication skills. Statistical experience is a plus.
Salary: Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications and in accordance with UTB Pay Plan. Teaching reduction, stipend, and partial summer support analogous to an Associate Dean  position.

Scope: The University of Texas at Brownsville is currently accepting applications for a senior faculty for leadership position in the College of Education’s department of Language, Literacy, and Intercultural Studies. The department offers a doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction with a specialization in bilingual studies and a vibrant and growing master’s program in bilingual education. These programs are offered on campus in Brownsville and using videoconference technology, multimedia instruction and blended learning in San Antonio and the Houston area. Clinical Faculty Associate/Director of Clinical & Field Experiences

Scope: Directly responsible for overseeing all students applying for admission into the teacher education program and coordinating with university faculty and area school districts in placing students in public school classrooms for clinical and field activities and student teaching assignments. Scope: Environmental Sciences faculty position at the anticipated rank of Assistant Professor. The department seeks candidates whose teaching interests include both introductory and upper level lectures and laboratories in environmental sciences and/or geology. The successful candidates will demonstrate the potential for establishing a vigorous independent research program in environmental sciences along the US/Mexico border region. Existing department research includes wetland restoration, coastal geology, artificial reef monitoring, groundwater and surface hydrology, GIS, land use and ground cover changes. All areas of environmental sciences will be considered but preference will be given to those candidates with a background in environmental systems involved in sustainable energy (e.g. wind and solar energy, biofuels) or contaminants removal with emphasis in coastal processes, riparian systems, and/or habitat restoration. The department encourages interdisciplinary research collaborations. This is a full-time tenure-track position beginning Fall 2014. Continuance of position is contingent upon funding. Clinical Assistant Professor

Scope: The UTeach Brownsville Program at The University of Texas at Brownsville has an immediate opening for a non-tenure track faculty position starting September 1, 2014. Person appointed to this position will need to be thoroughly committed to maintaining the success of a quality STEM teacher-preparation program. Candidate must have strong content knowledge in mathematics or science and be recognized as a leader in local or regional school districts with extensive knowledge of key district mathematics and science personnel, curriculum, and district policies and procedures. Qualifications: Responsibilities include teaching and/or supervising undergraduate students in UTeach courses and experiences related to field-based teacher development. Appointed person will teach field-based UTeach courses students take in pursuit of STEM teacher certification, working with local area public school teachers who serve as mentors for UTeach students, and conduct field observation of these students. Additional duties include student mentoring, advising, and other programmatically related tasks.
Education: Minimum of Master of Science degree in Mathematics or Science is required. Master’s degree in Mathematics or Science Education with a strong background in mathematics or science is acceptable.
Experience: Candidates must have a minimum of 5 years as a secondary mathematics or science classroom teacher with a preference to public school experience. Additional experience as instructional leader or specialist in mathematics or science is preferable.
Period of Appointment: This is a non-tenure track faculty appointment consist of a 9-month instructional and a 1-month summer administrative appointment, for a total of 10 months.

Scope: Engineering Physics Program at The School of Engineering and Computational Science (SECS) in the UTB’s (University of Texas At Brownsville) College of Science, Math & Technology (CSMT) is currently seeking applications for an engineering visiting Assistant Research Professor/MSEIP program counselor to support the Engineering Physics program at UTB, with duties assigned by the program director. This position is a three-year full-time non-tenure track position that is renewable annually and will start in 2014.
The successful candidate is expected to have a Ph.D. or Master degree in mechanical/electrical/computer engineering or a closely related field. Candidate with at least three-year engineering educational/professional experience is preferred. Responsibility scope of the position includes development of engineering design course/training, the undergraduate student counseling, and mentoring, constituting the connection to the engineering professional societies, Hispanic engineering societies, and women engineering networks.
