In most cases, the same financial aid is available to students for on-campus, or online courses, as long as the student applies for financial aid at their home campus. The home campus is the institution where a student is admitted into a degree program and where the student will receive their diploma. All admissions, financial assistance and degree plans should be coordinated through the home campus.
All students are required to maintain scholastic standards in order to continue receiving certain financial aid. Please visit the Financial Assistance webpage for more information about available money for your educational expenses!
Applying For Financial Aid
Online students pursuing a degree at UTB must apply for admission and submit any required forms to the Admissions Office before financial aid may be processed. Online students requesting financial assistance must also complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) in order to receive consideration for available grant, loan, work-study and/or scholarship funds. When applying for financial aid at The University of Texas at Brownsville use the FAFSA application with federal school code: 030646.
- A new FAFSA must be filed each year and is available online at FAFSA.ed.gov. Transmitting the application electronically allows the student to instantly verify the data entered and reduces the time needed to process the application.
- Students will receive a Student Aid Report (SAR) from the U.S. Department of Education which must be reviewed for accuracy. Any changes or corrections must be submitted to FAFSA.ed.gov.
- The SAR will contain an EFC (Expected Family Contribution) and is used to determine your eligibility for federal and state aid.
- An electronic copy of your SAR is also made available to the schools you’ve listed on your FAFSA. Be sure to provide any forms or documents that the Financial Aid Office requests so that we may determine your eligibility status.
UTB is also approved by the Texas Workforce Commission for processing of Veterans Administration Educational Benefits through all of the following:
For procedures to follow under these provisions, contact the Veterans Resource Center at (956) 882-8980.
All students are strongly encouraged to periodically check the UTB Scholarship web page regarding availability of scholarships. While the UTB General Scholarship Application Deadline is typically March 1,
additional scholarship opportunities are posted throughout the academic year.
Students Enrolled At Two Or More Institutions
Students may only receive financial aid from one institution for each academic period. It is important to notify the Office of Student Financial Assistance when planning to enroll for courses at another institution, in order to receive your degree at UTB. If you anticipate enrolling in two or more institutions, simply submit an email to firstname.lastname@example.org including: the name of the other institution, projected period of enrollment, and course numbers. While you will need to make payment arrangements with each institution, we will use this information to determine your total financial aid eligibility.
NOTE: Students planning to enroll at another institution are strongly encouraged to meet with an Academic Advisor to confirm that courses will apply toward their UTB degree program.
